Everyone had already decided what kind of snake he was. They probably should have asked Banjo.
Meet Banjo

Misunderstood
from the start.

Banjo is an Australian red-bellied black snake with a pirate hat, a wandering streak and an unfortunate talent for making a questionable first impression.


People saw the snake. They saw the pirate. They made their assumptions.


But if anyone actually took the time to know Banjo, they'd discover he was never particularly good at being a bad pirate in the first place.


He's cheeky, curious, occasionally chaotic and more than capable of finding trouble — but beneath the reputation is a thoroughly Australian larrikin who would rather create a good story than become the villain of one.

Why “Banjo”?

Banjo takes his name with a tip of the hat to A.B. “Banjo” Paterson, one of Australia's great storytellers.

Paterson's poems and stories helped capture the characters, humour and mythology of Australian bush life.

Our Banjo might be a red-bellied black snake rather than a bush poet, but he's setting out to create a few unlikely Australian stories of his own.

A nod to Australian storytelling — Banjo is an original Loot in a Boot character and is not an adaptation of Paterson or his works.

Banjo leans into that particularly Australian kind of character: cheeky, irreverent, rough around the edges and usually halfway into a questionable plan before anyone has had a chance to stop him.

Mischievous. Irreverent. A little rough around the edges. Usually having far more fun than everyone else.

Red dirt behind him. Desert ahead. Banjo is leaving Australia and crossing the Pacific for his official debut in Las Vegas.

Banjo makes his official debut at DesignerCon Las Vegas, bringing a little Australian red dirt, pirate nonsense and larrikin spirit along for the ride.

And apparently one version of Banjo wasn't enough.

He may look the fool, but with Banjo, appearances have never told the whole story.

Red dirt. Blue skies. Burnt-orange sunsets. Dust on absolutely everything.

Somewhere along the way Banjo decided all of that needed putting on a canvas.

Unfortunately, nobody explained how.

Art? Maybe.
